همه چیز از ۲۰ اسفند ۹۷ شروع شد. زمانی که مدیران سازمان صدا و سیما تصمیم گرفتند برنامه «نود» را تعطیل و محمدحسین میثاقی را جایگزین عادل فردوسی‌پور کنند. تصور آنها این بود که صدا و سیما مخاطب تضمین شده دارد؛ پس هرکسی جای فردوسی‌پور بنشیند می‌تواند بدون توجه به استعداد، کاریزما، هنر و دانشش نهایتا به جایگاه او می‌‌رسد.
جناح حاکم بر صدا و سیما این فرمول را دوست داشت. دیگر لازم نبود برای حفظ چهره‌های پرسابقه‌اش هزینه بدهد. پس شروع به حذف کرد. از برخورد تند با سازندگان «پایتخت۶» تا حذف علیخانی و «عصر جدید»! از بستن پرونده مهران مدیری و «دورهمی» تا حذف رامبد جوان! آنها تصور می‌کردند می‌توانند جایگزین کنند، اما نتوانستند. طوری شکست خوردند که مجبور شدند آمار بازدید برنامه‌هایشان را محرمانه کنند. نه «فوتبال برتر» جای «نود» را گرفت نه میلیاردها هزینه برای «هزار و یک» آن را به گردپای محبوبیت «خندوانه» رساند. پروژه حذف چهره‌ها شکست خورد. مجبور شدند در خفا سراغ همان چهره‌ها برای بازگشت بروند. جایگزین همان مدیرانی که دستور بررسی نقش «ستون پنجم فرهنگی دشمن» در «پایتخت۶» را داده بودند برای نجات سازمان‌شان سراغ همان تیم سازنده «پایتخت» رفتند.
حالا محسن تنابنده و «پایتخت» بار جذب مخاطب سازمان هزاران میلیاردی صدا و سیما را به دوش می‌کشند. سازمانی که تصور می‌کرد با هزاران میلیارد بودجه‌اش می‌تواند دوباره تنابنده و فردوسی‌پور و رامبد جوان و مدیری و عطاران بسازد، نهایتا برای بازگشت بینندگانش مجبور شد سراغ همان‌ها برود. سیاست و فرمول حذف چهره‌ها شکست خورد؛ صدا و سیما فهمید بدون آنها بازنده است…
