ووسالو نه تنها به تحقیق و مطالعه درناها و دیگر پرندگان مهاجر پرداخت، بلکه ارتباطی عمیق و نزدیک با جوامع محلی برقرار کرده و به ترویج آگاهی درباره اهمیت حفاظت از محیط زیست و پرندگان پرداخته است. او با برگزاری کارگاهها و نشستهای آموزشی، به اهالی منطقه کمک کرد تا اهمیت این پرندگان را در اکوسیستم و فرهنگ محلی درک کنند.
درگذشت او نه تنها یک ضایعه برای جامعه علمی بلکه برای همه افرادی است که از دانش و تجربیات او بهرهمند شدهاند. یاد و خاطره او در دل دوستداران محیط زیست و پرندگان زنده خواهد ماند.
